“Desperate Housewives”

Many shows exhibit the topics we have been discussing in class the last six weeks. One show that I have been watching for years, and I feel is a good example, is Desperate Housewives. This show is in it’s final season and it was on my mind while I was reading Pharr’s article about homophobia. The show has always had an openly gay couple and no one  thought anything of it. Everyone was open to the idea and accepted them for who they were. However, many of the married men on the show were uncomfortable being left alone with them because they didn’t want to be hit on even though the two gay men were married to each other, and that bothered me somewhat. I don’t understand why heterosexuals are afraid that every gay person will hit on them. My response to that is don’t flatter yourself. It’s impossible that every gay person would be attracted to them, and if they know the person straight they probably won’t try to hit on them.
