Another amazing bgsu blog

week of april 26…

This week was quite productive actually. It was the last week of classes before exams. So finishing up last minute projects was on everyones mind. I myself had a few plans. My sorority reserved tables in the union to raise money for the American Cancer Society. We were there mon thur thurs, 11-3. I’m not sure how much we raised but it seemed like a lot. Thursday a few of my sorority sisters signed up for community service with WYMO (When You Move Out). A service provided to the students at the end of the year when they want to get rid of things they no longer want. They collected food, bathroom products, and clothes. The horrible part was touching clothes that were obviously dirty. People had the nerve to include their underware.

Friday I had an appointment with John Newlove Realty. I am currently looking for a place to live next year. I refuse to stay in a dorm. I want to live by myself. I don’t like people. But those apartments are horrible. I have another appointment this Tuesday, but I think I’m going to cancel it.

Now all that’s left do is get ready for exams…dum dum dum!

Last weekend was nothing but parties. Friday was a party thrown by the men of Omega Psi Phi. It was crazy as hell. Best house party I ever been too. Before the actual party, my sorors helped bbq with them. Later the cops were called and the party got shut down. The next day we also bbq but with the Alphas. There were a lot of parties that night but we just had a private party and hung out. That sunday was the first chapter meeting, We had elections for positions next year. I won Treasurer! Im cool!!!

This weekend is a regional meeting for all the chapters of my sorority in our region. Hopefully it wil go well. It in Cincinnati, Ohio. It cost like 85 dollars to go so not everyone was able to attend, but some of us like myself are going unregistered. I can’t wait to buy a bunch of stuff.

Springfest is also this weekend. Drake, an actor turned hip hop artist will be here. There will be many other fun activities like a pool party and a basketball competition. But I will be out of town for at regionals during the actual concert.

Stay tunes to find out how it went…

week of april 12… 1st nphc meeting

Tuesday was my first NPHC meeting. This is a joint meeting for all the black greek organizations on campus. I meet even more BG greeks. It was nice to get to know other people from other greek orgs. Being Greek is like being apart of a special secret society that not everyone wants to experience. It very selective and not everyone makes it. But I did! Its kind of weird though. Its like being naked all the time, because you can never hide. Your always being watched. You set an example for everyone else. So many people are looking up to you. And you represent an entire organization that’s a business in it self. There is so much pressure, but it’s all worth it. Its like being a mini celebrity on campus. Everyone knows who you are just because of your letters. Everyone thinks they know or want to know your business. Its only been a few days and already my life is changing!

week of april 5… coming out!

So like I said in last blog… The big secret is that I am officially a lady of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Incorporated. My initiation was this past weekend and my coming out show was Thursday. It was such a big event. We had the most people every at our show than at any other coming out exhibition. It was huge for our chapter Iota Iota because we hadn’t had a show since 1988, so AKA’s from all over came to see us. It was so much bigger than us. We made history… literally. After the show we had a party at the enclave given to us by the men Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity Incorporated. Our brother organization. It was really nice meeting other sorors and bruhs! It was the start of the rest to come of Greek Life!

I was sick that week actually. I had the stomach flu and then caught a cold too so my body was going through a lot. That didn’t stop me from partying it up and celebrating my new life, lol!!!

This weekend I am going away for a VERY important event. I’m not suppose to talk about it. We got in trouble last time we told people because we were suppose to keep it to ourselves. But it so hard when its so exciting. Maybe next week’s blogs I can reveal what it is. All I can say is I will be away the entire weekend and will have no communication with the outside world. Stay tuned…

week of march 22

This week was quite exciting…

A organization I’m in called UAO put on events for the campus. I am on the Fine Arts programming team. This week we put on an event entitled BG Bears It All. It was based off of the widely-known website postsecret.blogspot.com. People form all over the country, maybe even the world, send in postcards with their best secrets on them to a man and he picks out 20 and post them every week.

For our program, made postcard and sent them all over campus for people to decorate it with their most private secrets and send it back in. Also, if they wanted to actually send it in to post secret all they had to do was put a stamp on it and we would send it in to them. We retitled it as “BG Bears It All”, for legal and copyright reasons. After the postcards where sent in, we reserved a room and displayed the cards on walls. Even as people where looking at the secrets, we had blank postcards set out so people could post secrets as they came in. It was the first time we did this event and it was pretty successful. We hope to make it an annual things and hope it gets bigger every year!

My break consisted of me at home sleeping, eating, shopping and hanging out with friends. It wasn’t bad. It was no Panama City, but I can’t complain. I needed the break and rest. But as soon as i got back to school, the work started all over again. I had meetings and papers and exams. But I have found my motivation for studying finally. So thats whats next on my list. I had a project due, but I didn’t have time to do it, so hopefully Ill get it done soon! Until then, Ill just do what I can do.

It was insane! Not that i had so many midterms to do, but campus activities that I am involved in had me going all week. Between wrapping things up with Grease, UAO (university activities organization), and other unmentionables, I thought I was going to have a heart attack. Never had enough sleep or time in the day. The show really put me behind. The one thing that kept me going was the fact that spring break was right around the corner. I didn’t leave campus until like after 11 o’ clock Friday. Most of the things I packed didn’t even match, but i didn’t even care. I was so ready to go. I left and never looked back!

This weekend was the opening and closing of Grease! It was beyond great. Friday night was the first show. Friday is the cheaper night and the night most the students come. The audience was amazing and really responded to the show. Considering the nature of the show and its appeal, the Friday audience was more responsive because they related to it better, seeing as how Grease takes place in high school.

Saturday is always suppose to be the big night. Besides the fact that it cost more and comes with dinner and round tables, its the night when all the “important” university people come to the show. The President, advisors from different offices on campus, those benifactors who made the show possible to put on bla bla bla. It’s easier for people’s families to come on Saturday because they are free from the weeks responsibilities. This year I bought a table and reserved it. Seats are $20 a person so I bought the table for $200! Saturday sold out very quicky, even when they were able to gt more tables they still sold out. But if I knew that all of my family wasn’t coming like originally plan I would have sold some tickets. I had three extra tickets but I didn’t find out until after the show. Its not such a big deal anymore.

Although we expected Saturday to be the better night, it turned out Friday’s performance was better, most the cast though. It seems like so many things went wrong Saturday that went wll Friday. The audience didn’t notice but I noticed and it drove me crazy. Like when the handheld mic flew off the back of the stage, or when stage crew didnt put my chair on stage and I had to share with a cast mate. But the show is over and we can’t redo any of it so as of now I’m just enjoying what we had.

Th show was a success and I would like to thank the cast and crew. My family and the wonderful director and advisor to CMAI, Mrs. Sheila Brown! Let’s get ready for next year!

SOOOOOO…

At the end of October I auditioned for an on campus program called Dinner Theater hosted by the Center for Multicultural and Academic Initiatives (CMAI). Typically they program is a variety show of musical, acting and dance acts. This year the director decided to put on an entire production. She chose do put on “Grease”. But instead of the stage play, she decided to put on the move version, which is condensed and more raunchy. She did this because the movie is more familiar to everyone as a whole and would be easier to imitate.

Anyways, I auditioned and got the part of Marty Marachino (like the cherry)! We have been rehearsing since November and things are doen to the wire. This weekend is the show, February 27 and 28, 2009 in the Union ballroom. Rehearsals have been long and insane! But it will all be worth it this weekend. As an inside joke of the cast, we refer to Grease as Gel, because it is performed with Black actors. Black people used gel for their hair. Oddly enough, they also use grease, lol!

Tickets are on sale now for friday- $10 with a cash bar!  $20 for saturday including a buffet, also with a cash bar.

Great News for some, bad for others… Saturday is officially sold out!!!!
