Discovery Education

Discovery Education offers resources from lesson plans to videos for teachers at all grade levels. With a passcode from the school district, teachers are able to search for videos to bring concepts to life in their classroom by showing how a tornado forms or how grizzly bears catch their food. There are free lesson plans and worksheets also available.

Assignment: Media Literacy

Maryland’s Department of education has released curriculum for elementary, middle, and high school students to teach them necessary media literacy skills. Each age group contains 5 units, all of which include a video, teacher’s guide, and printable resources for students. This is a great resource for teachers looking to add media literacy lessons to their classrooms.

PBS Storywriting with Arthur

One of the great resources provided by PBS is Story Writing with Arthur. This website provides many reading comprehension and pre-writing activities geared for students in grades 1-3. Each activity has a downloadable student printout to be used in the lesson. While the activities follow an Arthur theme, they are extremely flexible and could be used with any story. Also provided are links to online activities including sequencing and poetry.

SMART Exchange

SMART Exchange is a website that allows teachers to search for SMART Board lessons.  You can search by grade and/or subject level.  Also, the website allows you to view a preview of the lesson before downloading it.  This is a great resource to download a pre-made lesson that can be used in your class, get ideas to design your own, or combine, edit, and change lessons you download.
