Dr. Ray B. Browne, Distinguished University Professor Emeritus in Popular Culture, at Bowling Green State University and the founder of the academic discipline of Popular Culture Studies, has passed away. The co-founder of the Popular Culture Association and the American Culture Association remained active in his discipline, even after retirement.  Additionally, he founded the Ray and Pat Browne Library for Popular Culture Studies (a.k.a. Browne Popular Culture Library) in 1969 to support the new Department of Popular Culture (which he also founded) and the Popular Press (with his wife, Pat Browne – it is now with the University of Wisconsin Press).  He also began publishing the Journal of Popular Culture and the Journal of American Culture.

He leaves with us a legacy of scholarship and devotion to his discipline.  He was our colleague and friend.
