The great shift – 2008
Those of you who have been away all summer will be surprised to find that the open-stack books and scores have been completely shifted. This was done to move higher-demand materials out of compact shelving, to provide a more logical layout of the whole collection, and to take advantage of some space that was gained through rearrangement.
The scores now begin on the first row of compact shelving just past reference, and the books follow, continuing in the short rows along the south wall. At the end of the MTs are the theses (call numbers beginning with “MZ”), followed by the non-music books (call numbers beginning with “mul”). The oversized scores are now against the west wall.
We apologize for the inconvenience over the summer and as you get used to the new layout. Please don’t hesitate to ask if you have trouble finding anything on the shelf.
A big thank you is owed to the student assistants who worked tirelessly and capably to get this project completed before the beginning of classes: Morgan Rich, Jay Grayson, Felecia Tchen, and John Cook.

ML/SRA Renovations
Over the holiday break this year, we gave the Music Library and Sound Recordings Archives a bit of a facelift. Here’s a refresher on how the reference and service window areas used to look:
In addition to the cosmetic overhaul, changes included adding a bit more comfortable furniture, moving and reconfiguring the reference desk, and improving access to electrical outlets for laptop users.
