Naxos updates to exclusive use of Flash Player

As of 15 January 2010 the Naxos Music Library will stream exclusively with Adobe Flash Player! If Adobe Flash Player 10 is not installed on your computer, please take a moment and install:

Reserve reminder and Naxos playlists

For those of you teaching classes, don’t forget that this semester, you should send your reserve requests to Susannah Cleveland. We are in the process of filling Morgan Rich’s position and will let you know who that is as soon as we do.

Also, if you are interested in creating playlists for your class in Naxos Music Library, let us know. We have detailed instructions we can give you, and we’re also happy to walk you through the process of setting them up.

Naxos transitions to Flash

On August 1, Naxos Music Library will transitions from Windows Media Player to Adobe Flash. This should ease use for Mac users. Read more on their blog:

Naxos adds Van Cliburn competition recordings

We at Naxos have some exciting news! We’d like to officially welcome into the Naxos Music Library, the Van Cliburn competition recordings!

The recordings from the 2009 preliminary rounds are already available in the NML, with the complete competition being uploaded daily! We’re also pleased to announce that all of the semi-finals, will also be uploaded!

You can hear the winners’ recordings by searching these catalog numbers:

Stream Naxos using Flash instead of Windows Media Player

Naxos Music Library has added support for streaming using Adobe’s Flash Player, which should be helpful for our Mac users. The default is still for Windows Media Player, but the option to set Flash as your default should come soon. Make the selection of players after you select tracks and click on “Play.”

Playlists are still limited to WMP, but Flash support for those should be coming soon.

Spring Reserves – Update for Teaching Faculty

While our student and circulation supervisor position is vacant, please submit music reserve requests to Susannah Cleveland (clevels@bgsu.edu or 2-9929). As soon as we get this position filled, we’ll update you all on contact information for various services, including reserves. In the meantime, please be patient with us as we try to pick up the slack.

Also, when planning your listening lists, don’t forget that we have two streaming audio databases, Naxos Music Library and DRAM (see http://www.bgsu.edu/colleges/library/music/page37943.html for more information on these). We can create playlists in Naxos, so that you can link to the playlist from Blackboard and not have to add and update each link for each piece each semester. Get in touch with Susannah if you are interested in exploring this feature or if you would like more information about either database.

New in Naxos: Nettwerk

Naxos Music Library has announced today the addition of the label Nettwerk to their online holdings:

On November 13, Canada’s #1 Independent Record Label, Nettwerk Music Group, Joins Naxos Music Library

469 titles from Nettwerk’s catalog, featuring artists such as Sarah McLachlan, Barenaked Ladies, and Sixpence None the Richer will be available on Naxos Music Library.

BGSU students, faculty, and staff may access these recordings and many others online via Naxos Music Library.

We seem finally to have a more stable option for Mac users to access Naxos: Microsoft’s Silverlight™:

Download Silverlight™ here, and all your access woes should disappear. But do let us know if they don’t.

Another New Label Joins Naxos Music Library

Naxos has announced another new addition to the content in Naxos Music Library.

col legno

The Naxos Music Library is pleased to welcome the highly respected col legno label to its collection. col legno began in 1982 and has been devoted to new classical music, providing top-class recordings of music by today’s composers. It is now encompassing revolutionary music of past centuries and music which, in various ways, defies categorization. Thus, its scope is broad and fascinating: from Schubert Lieder recorded by the East Tyrolean band Franui to interpretations of classical music by outstanding jazz performers to plans for awarding new commissions. This is a fresh and feisty label!
