About

The Browne Popular Culture Library at Bowling Green State University has more than 190,000 cataloged books – largely popular fiction – along with materials documenting popular entertainment and the entertainment industry, graphic arts, recreation and leisure, and popular religion. Non-fiction holdings also include books on the occult and supernatural, parapsychology, manner and customs, etiquette and advice, arts and crafts, hobbies, games and amusements, sports, foodways and cookery, domestic arts, costume and dress, and humor. Popular reference and informational materials are also in the Library’s collections.  The Library also houses archival and special collections, including literary manuscripts and movie and television scripts. Non-traditional library resources such as dime novels, storypapers and nickel weekliespulp magazinesfanzines and other amateur publications, comic books and graphic novels, and posterspostcardsgreeting cards, and mail-order catalogs, are also part of the Library’s unusual collections.

A particular strength of the collection is in adventure stories, many of which have been the focus of digitization projects over the last several years.  By presenting the materials here, illustrated with action figures also from the collection, we hope to bring a new generation of readers and scholars to these materials.

We intend to post one chapter per week (on Monday mornings), which is similar to the initial publication of these weeklies. You must wait a week to find out what happens next!
