I liked the blog idea because I think it is a good way for you to hear from us all individually. However, I don’t know that I liked having to do one or two every single class. I think maybe once a week and then a comment on someone’s would have been enough to still be able to hear from us and we could would still be able to get the experience and learn about the whole blogging process. This semester was the first semester that I really really used the blogs here at BG. I used them in more than one class, and in the other classes, we were just to post things that were due that day for class. I didn’t like this as much because we also had to turn in a hard copy of the assignment as well… so it was like doing it twice and I just kind of found it to be a little unnecessary. I liked being able to let you know what I thought about whatever the prompt was; however, sometimes I had nothing to say to the prompt and felt like I had to make something up just to get the points. I didn’t like this because I didn’t feel like it was me! Overall, I didn’t mind the blogging process this semester for this class. I think that since you are such a huge fan of blogging you should definitely keep it in your semester content, maybe just modify it a little bit!

Questions:

1. Is my literacy unique?

2. Will it work for this assignment?

3. Does my reflection explain how I use it now and how I will in the future?

4. Does my relfection flow/make sense to the reader?

5. Are there any certain parts throughout my literacy/reflection that need work?

I think it helps to get extra practice on something like this. I think it is always good to be aware of the various literacies in your life and this assignment really goes over them again. I think it is also important to be aware of the different skills that you do possess too. I think this assignment will be helpful.

Options 1 & 2 Focus

1.  For my final project I am going to focus on ___a lesson plan_ literacy because:

2. This is a literacy because:

A lesson plan is something you have to read and write. You also have to know the specific things that are included in a lesson plan such as: content standards, day by day instruction etc.

3. Explain how you use/practice/demonstrate this literacy right now in your life right now (in other words, what role does the literacy in question one play in your life)?

I am now writing lesson plans all the time in my classes this semester. I am writing them, not only for my grade, but also for practice because sooner than later, I will be writing them for my actual classroom.

4. Explain how this literacy might be used by others in their personal lives.  Explain how this literacy might be used by others in their professional lives.

Other people might use this literacy if they are teachers as well. Other students in the education major, here at BG, are in classes where they have to learn how to write lesson plans. They will, just like me, have to use it in their professional lives if they become teachers too. They will have to write lesson plans, not only for themselves but for substitutes as well.

5. How do you see yourself using this literacy professionally?  What need does this literacy meet that others cannot?  In other words, what will this literacy do that others do not?

I will use lesson plans every day when I become a teacher. As I said before, I will use lesson plans for myself and substitute teachers too. I have to have lesson plans every day to know what I am teaching and the different activities I will be using.

6. How do you plan to demonstrate your literacy?

I will use a lesson plan that I have already written for another class. I will then make sure I print everything off with it (including handouts that I would need to provide for my students). I also will write a 2-3 page reflection to it.

7. What questions do you have about this project?

I don’t really have any questions at this point.

8.  Create a chronological list of the steps you will need to take to complete this project.  Then, set a time-line of when each step will be completed.  This will be a tentative contract between you and me to assure you’re making progress on this project.

I will first find a lesson plan I have written. I will then print it off with the handouts included. I will write a reflection on it. I should really have this done by next week.

My view of literacy is still the same as it was when the class got started; however, I have found that I didn’t realize how much was considered literacy. I also didn’t realize how often I use a literacy throughout my day. I guess that could be because I never really thought about literacy to heavily before this class. I realize now, almost everything I do on a daily basis fits in some form of a literacy. It also shows me how important it is to know what literacy is, and I feel that it is an important topic to teach students as well.

In my introduction to my portfolio, I want explain what my portfolio consists of and how it is laid out.  I want my reader to first see my introduction -but it can be laid out to look like a blog (not a welcome page). I want you to just be able to click on the different pages for the different units. I will set them up as unit 1 unit 2 etc.  -one page per unit. I want my pages to look just like the blog in a paragraph form. I will include a traditional paper to introduce myself as well.

I realized after reading through some of my peer’s resumes and cover letters, I need to do a better job at listing my skills and why I am qualified. I think I was a little too vague in that portion of my cover letter. I also think that I need to go back over my resume and make sure it has all the different aspects that I want it to. My cover letter is really what I need to re-work though. I just need to re-read it and add a little more to it.

I have not completed my resume or my cover letter yet so I do not know of all the problems I might or might not be having. I do know that this far, I am struggling just a little with a few things because I have not graduated yet…I have to make certain things up on my resume. I still need to finish up both things and I am going to do that by just doing them. I just haven’t had the time to totally finish them up yet!

The job ad is for an English teaching position in Massachusetts. It is important because kids need an education. Something interesting with the ad is that you need a Massachusetts teaching lisensure. It does ask for a cover letter, reusme, 3 letters of professional references, and college transcript as well.  Other than not having a Massachusetts license (I will pretend I have one for this assignment) I meet all of the other requirements. Key words that the ad uses (for me) are English teachers also Middle school- grades 6-8 because my license goes 7-12th. So I can teach Jr. High and this job is for me as far as my license goes. This school district values the city that it is in. The website talks all about the city and attractions of the city.

From my experience, resumes are a collection of the work/experience you have had up to a certain point (usually the present). They include the company name that you worked for, references that you have, and their goal is to provide your history to a future employer.

I have only really talked about them in high school/made one in high school. I haven’t taken a class in college where I have needed one or to make one yet.
