I am going to write about the second prompt.  The second prompt involves whether or not parents should have access to their child web accounts on places like Facebook and Myspace.  I choose this prompt because it is the only one I feel strongly enough about to write about.  I will write about this because I think it is a fairly controversial issue amongst parents and their kids.  Many kids are against their parents having access to their web accounts because they feel it is an invasion of privacy, but in actuality the internet is a much more public place than many kids realize.  I will be arguing the position that parents have a right to have access to their child’s web accounts.  I will be arguing this because I think that a parent having access to their kids web accounts could lead to a much more open communication amongst a kid and their parents.  I am choosing this position because I think their are many more positive aspects to a parent having access to their kids web accounts than a parent not having access. I also wanted to argue the opposite of what I would like my parents to do, since my parents do not monitor my web accounts.    Since I think that it will be a greater challenge for me to argue something that goes against what my parents do, since I would not like my parents to have access to my web accounts.  I think they when a child or teenager is having problems he or she will be more likely to talk to their parents about if their parents have access to their web accounts.

The Frontline video “Growing up Online”  represents an arguing a position because it effectively presents both sides of an argument.  The video presents students, parents and teachers opinions on the internet, and social network sites, such as Facebook and Myspace.  The video also used statistics like 90% of teenagers are online.  The video presented both the positive and negative aspects of growing up online.  The positive aspects included an easy access to information, and communication with friends.  While the negative aspects presented include teenagers being sexually solicited online.   The video presented its side of the argument by showing the many dangers of the kids growing up on the internet.   The video also showed the concern of parents and teacher of kids growing up online. It also showed how teenagers viewed the internet as a private place even though the reality is that it is very public.   The video clearly presented both sides of a argument while supporting one side.

Using different types of support in an argument can help make a position in the argument clear.  Using support can help back up an argument with evidence supporting a position.  Support is always needed when someone is trying to effectively present their side of the argument.  Using statistics will provide evidence to support and argument.  Statistics as long as they are from a good and honest source can also not be argued against.  Statistics also show that the person arguing something know what he or she is talking about, and actually has something to base their opinion of off.

Using a story or an anecdote will help support an argument by presenting a reason why someone would be for or against something in an argument.  A story can also help the opposition in the argument better understand the other side.  Personal experience is also great to use in an argument because it can show how someone has come to believe what he or she believes.  Another type of support is authoritative sources.  Using an authority in an argument the argument has support from others.  Also someone who is an authority on a certain subject knows what he or she is talking about when it comes to a certain subject.

The revision strategy I will uses is reading the essay aloud to myself.  I will use the strategy because I think it will help m fix some grammar errors in my essay. Reading my essay allowed will also help me notice a few flaws in my paper that I may have not noticed if I only read it silently.  Reading my essay aloud may also help me make parts of my essay clearer and easier to understand.

• All of the essays explain how overcoming difficulties in life have helped them develop their own beliefs. For example Jackie Robinson overcame racism in baseball by being the first African American baseball player, and Helen Keller became was able  convey here thoughts and speak despite being blind and deaf.
• Another similarity is that all of the essays say that their is always a hope in the world even in the darkest situations. For example Eve Birch’s went from having almost nothing to having a house big enough to take in a handful of people.
• Another similarity is faith in something, whether its is God or the human spirit, or in Isabel Allende’s case in her love for others. They all seem to have something that keeps them going.

I would explain to someone the goals of a This I Believe essay to someone unfamiliar with the concept by explaining how someone’s experiences in life help shape their view on the world.  I would explain how not only good but also bad experiences help shape someone’s view on the world.  I would explain how the reader of a This I Believe article may be influenced or inspired by the article, and then make the right choice in their life. I would tell them how people are often influenced by the choices and experiences of others. I would also explain how the concept of a This I Believe article is to influence other to make the right choices in life.

I believe writing is important  because it allows someone to express their beliefs and values in a written from that others can look at.  Writing allows others to see your beliefs.

Writing is important because it can help someone to write down and organize their thoughts in a way that others can understand.  Writing can also help someone organize their thoughts.  Writing is also helps you to persuade others.

I would convince my 10 year old child that writing is important., by showing him the great stories that have been through writing. I would tell him or her that writing allows you to share your imagination with others.
