Read both essays in SMG,  and write a 150/200-word response.  Also, respond to at least TWO posts.  You are supposed to finish this work by 8:00pm Thursday (10/15).

1.  What are the features of “speculating about causes essay”? Base your answers on the two essays you have read. Remember to cite when you quote texts.

2.  What are some of the strengths you find in “Fitness Culture: A Growing Trend in America” and “Why We Crave Horror Movies”?  What strategies are you going to use in your essay?

3.  Associate the contents/topics of both articles with your life experience.  Do you agree with the causes the authors analyze? What do you think are the hidden and important causes of the issues that the writers have ignored? Explain briefly.

    1) The primary features of speculating about causes essays is the in depth look into what the reason(s) are behind the topic. For example, in “Fitness Culture: A Growing Trend in America”, the author cites several factors as to why fitness and wellbeing have had such a dramatic influx. Overall, she shows four causes thought to be suitable reasons. King does the same in “Why We Crave Horror Movies”.
    2) The strengths of both essays are apparent immedietly upon reading. “Why We Crave Horror Movies” is told from an already well known author who also provides descriptive examples of his causes. In “Fitness Culture: A Growing Trend in America” the strength lies in the data and the correlation between the data and the real world. As for my own essay, I plan on using a combination of persuasion and citation to get my point across.
    3) As for in relation to my own experiences, I can fully support both authors. King is exactly correct in his proposition that we are only human and thus only animals. But we have another civilized side that is the one we most often show. McClain hits the nail on head with her essay and showcases the most important issues. I don’t think that either author have ignored any issue.

    1. The authors of both “Fitness Culture: A Growing Trend in America” and “Why We Crave Horror Movies” split their speculated causes into different paragraphs. They then used statistics and sources to support their “speculated causes”.

    2. I really liked the how the author of “Fitness Culture: A Growing Trend in America” organized her paper. She split up her causes into four different paragraphs. She did a great job explaining and giving good support to her different causes. It was well put together. In “Why We Crave Horror Movies” I really liked how Stephen King introduced his essay. It grabbed my attention and made me want to keep reading. I’m going to use both of these strategies in my paper.

    3. I agree with both of the authors. Just by listening to my friends and family I know the causes that McClain and King listed in their essays are true. I think they addressed all the causes and didn’t ignore any issues.

    1. The first essay, “Fitness Culture: A Growing Trend in America.” Speculates the new trend in America of becoming more healthy and fit. The author talks about different causes of this new found trend. The second essay is by Stephen King and is called, “Why We Crave Horror Movies.” This essay talks about why there is this new trend of craving horror movies. Horror movies have become an increasingly popular genre and King speculates the possible causes for this in this essay.
    2. I really liked the first essay because I thought that it was very informative and I felt like the author truly understood the topic and developed this topic thoroughly. When picking my topic I hope to do what this author did in this essay and really find out why my social trend came about and why it is a new trend today. I liked the second essay because I thought that it was very interesting and it really caught my attention, which I hope that I will be able to do in my essay.
    3. I mostly agreed with what both of the authors discussed in each essay. I felt like each essay was well developed and well done. The only thing that I did disagree with is the first essay because I felt like the author forgot about how obesity is increasing, and if fitness is in fact the new trend, then why are so many people falling on the obesity line in America? But besides that I really did like both essays, especially the second essay.

I thought that petrowr’s answers were very well developed and I thought that he understood the essays very well and I think that this really showed through the well thought out answers that he provided.

I liked Ashley’s answers as well, the only problem that I had with the answers she provided was the third answer because I felt like she didn’t have any objection or criticism with any of the essays.

    1. The features of “speculating about causes essays” is, like in McClain and King’s essays, to explain why they think that people do some of the things they do, like working out or watching scary movies.
    2. I liked the information in the first essay. It had a lot of sources and made the essay very convincing. King used a lot of examples that connected with the audience. I am going to use more sources and try to better connect with the audience in my paper.
    3. I agreed with the content in both of the essays. I ersonally love to work out and watch scary movies, yet I never though about it in the way the authors portrayed it. However, the way they explained it does seem like the reason I do those things. I did not think that anything was ignored.

    1. The speculated causes in the first essay “Fitness Culture: A Growing Trend in America” is why working out and eating healthy has become a trend in the U.S. In essay two, “Why We Crave Horror Stories” is speculating the possible causes of why horror movies have become such a trend in our society today.
    2. In “Fitness Culture: A Growing Trend in America” I liked how McClain organized her paper and provided good evidence and sources. I liked how after I read this paper I was convinced about the authors topic. When I go to write my essay I hope to write similar to McCain and provide informative information for my audience.
    3. I liked both essays and I feel like they both were related to my life. I love to watch scary movies and I also enjoy working out. I don’t think either essays ignored any evidence.
