The film I viewed for this screening blog was Love, a movie that was only in select theaters for one night but was in several festivals. Love is and independent film directed by William Eubank about an astronaut who loses contact with Earth. Through out this film, the colors in the space station and space in general do not really have much variation. For example, most of the walls of the space station are either blue or white, along with his normal outfit of all blue. A lot of the footage inside of the space station also has a blue tint to it. During the Civil War flashback scenes, there is an affinity of color as well. With most war scenes, you have the several different shades of brown, black, and green with the occasional red that stands out. The scenes with the most contrast of color in them are the ones where the astronaut is standing in his bright orange space suit, usually on a darker background. The high contrast between the bright orange and the darker colors really help him stand out as he walks through the space station. The affinity of color in the film does not draw away from the incredible sound and cinematography present through out the movie.
The use of deep space was also present in this film, either when it’s during the Civil War scenes and there are huge canyons or when in both space stations, the camera is set in a specific way to show whole hallways in the station as the main character moves through them.
Near the end of the film, when in the server room, there is an affinity of shape. Almost every shape seen in the room is rectangular. The International Space Station itself in the film only seemed to have the same few shapes all around such as circles and squares.

Visual design takes into account most of the technology and visual effects added to movies, during and after filming. Without digital design, most films today would lack the incredible visuals and special effects that really pulls us into the film’s story and experience. I think that visual design is quite possibly the most important part of new films.
