<p>   The world may seem still and empty under a blanket of winter white, but Stewart and Bergum team up to present the wonders of the natural world under the snow.  Bergum&#8217;s layered paintings open up the incredible <img class="alignleft size-full wp-image-937" src="http://blogs.bgsu.edu/crcnews/files/2009/11/under-the-snow.jpg" alt="under the snow" width="149" height="180" />hidden world lurking in and around the snow and ice.  Children will be particularly fascinated with the with the wood frog who freezes solid yet survives, the clock butterfly that takes cover in a pile of brush, and the red-spotted newts who continue to dart around under the ice.   Our copy of this appropriately seasonal book is available in the Children&#8217;s Book Center in the hallway of the CRC at <a href="http://maurice.bgsu.edu/record=b3016531~S0" target="_blank">JUV 591.4 S851u</a>.</p>

<p><img class="alignleft size-full wp-image-885" src="http://blogs.bgsu.edu/crcnews/files/2009/09/billy.jpg" alt="billy" width="105" height="105" />Can a story take place in just three or four words?  Eve Feldman found a way, and all in rhyme.  Teaming up with illustrator Tuesday Mourning,  <span style="text-decoration: underline">Billy &amp; Milly Short &amp; Silly</span>, presents 13 very short stories that delight in their simplicity.   Wide-set eyed Billy and Milly find themselves surprised by basketballs, crocodiles, bees, and broomsticks to the rhythm of the bold text.  Great fun for younger children, this lovely little book lends itself to multiple re-readings that won&#8217;t go stale.</p>
