Philadelphia Spelling Book Copyrighted this Day in History

June 9 is the anniversary of the first copyrighted book in the United States. A spelling book, the author applied for copyright protection just over a week after then President, George Washington, signed the bill into law. The Library of Congress has digitized a few pages of the Philadelphia Spelling Book. While we don’t have a copy of John Barry’s above referenced book, the Curriculum Resource Center has lots of more current textbooks, including spelling texts! Come in and check us out!
