Celebrate Childrens Day/Book Day
Every April 30 is El Dia de lo Ninos/El Dia de los Libros, or Children’s Day/Book Day. Dia celebrates children, families, and reading and stresses the importance of literacy for all children, regardless of cultural background.
Author and poet Pat Mora was instrumental in creating Dia in the United States. After she learned that Children’s Day was celebrated in Mexico, Mora proposed linking that celebration with a celebration of books and children’s literacy. The first Dia de los Ninos/Dia de los Libros was celebrated in 1997.
