February is Black History Month

It’s time to celebrate Black History Month, and no one describes what that means better than Andrea Davis Pinkney in a recent article in School Library Journal.  Need inspiration to kick-off your own celebration?  Check out the following sites for great lesson ideas.  The Ohio Resource Center offers ideas for Black History Month aligned to OAC Standards.  The African American History and Heritage Site provides a page of useful links and Smithsonian Education online has a treasure trove of artifacts, music, pictures, and more.  Not surprisingly PBS.org offers a fabulous site which will inspire any teacher.  Here at the CRC we have on display many titles for conducting an African American Read In. Suggested authors for Black History Month include Julius Lester, Christopher Paul Curtis, Ashley Bryan, Patricia McKissack, Virginia Hamilton, and  Walter Dean Myers among many more.
