News from the Curriculum Resource Center

The Curriculum Resource Center will be closed from December 24, 2008 through January 5, 2009.  Our hours for the week of January 5-9 are 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM, with access to books until 6:00 PM.  Beginning January 12 regular hours will resume when we welcome all students back to campus.

New to the CRC are seven basic skills phonics puzzles from Didax Educational Resources.  For ages three and up, these titles include Consonant Blends & Diagraphs, Silent Consonants, Compound Words, Analogy, Synonym, Rhyming Words, and Alphabet.  Find these with the teaching aids at 372.6 D56

Waring, Geoff.  Oscar and the Cricket:  A Book About Moving and Rolling. (2008). Cambridge, MA:  Candlewick Press. ISBN:  978-0-763-64029-3.

Philbrick, Nathaniel.  The Mayflower and the Pilgrims’ New World.  New York:  G.P. Putnam’s Sons, 2008.

     History writer Nathaniel Philbrick has adapted his 480 page Mayflower:  A Story of Community, Courage, and War (2006) for young people.  It opens with the the planning of the voyage of the Mayflower and ends fifty-six years later with 180 Native Americans shipped off in the Seaflower as slaves bound for Jamaica.  In between, the story of William Bradford and Massasoit, Benjamin Church and King Philip play out in fascinating stories not part of the traditional Thanksgiving myth.  Recommended … Continue Reading

Just in time for your holiday shopping, the CRC brings you children’s books from Scholastic.  We offer a wide variety of preschool through young adult books, holiday hardbacks and paperbacks, and stocking stuffers.  The sale runs Wednesday and Thursday from 9 AM to 9 PM.

These fun food puzzles demonstrate wholes, halves, thirds, and fourths with bright photographs.  Suggested for ages 4 and up, these sturdy chipboard puzzle pieces are ideal for your math center.
