• Cheating is basically using info or anything that isn’t personally yours, but you use it and claim it as your own.
• When using any type of statistic, you must prove that it’s real by citing your sources.
• Assisting someone to plagiarize makes you just as guilty.
• There is no need to cite sources of info containing information of common knowledge or that are available on many websites.
• Plagiarism penalties can range from partial credit on your assignment to sever penalties outside of the school system.

After going through the videos again and listening more carefully to what was being said, I learned that an argument is really based off of opinions. There is not necessarily any “right answer” unless its an obvious situation or topic you’re trying to prove. By arguing a point, you need to state facts that support what you believe in. If you don’t have anything to back up what your opinion is, you aren’t going to be able to persuade the listener into agreeing with you that you in fact are correct. I also noticed by the “taxi video” the way he responded to the driver. Even though he didn’t necessarily agree with him, he calmly justified what he though and used logic to prove his disagreement. By doing this the taxi (from what the guy made it sound like) to his facts into consideration and was able to see both sides of things rather than just what he believed in. Also, I learned from the first video that the way you approach a disagreement is a lot. You can just be forceful with what you have to say and throw facts out in someone’s face because they are more than likely to get defensive and not even take into consideration of what you believe.
Facts
Verbal Awareness
Reasoned Arguments
From our brief class discussion, the videos, and the readings I collected a few things of how to better write and argumentative paper. The first thing, and one of the most important things is knowing what you’re talking about. If you are trying to convince someone that you are right, you need to know how to persuade the listener and have facts that you can use to back yourself up. One of the major things I realized that is important is realizing and understanding the counter-argument. I never really took into consideration of making it known that you can understand or agree with some of their argument, yet at the same time use a support system that will prove your side to be correct. By doing this it kind of eases the listener to realize that you aren’t being narrow minded so it leaves a better chance for them to agree with you. The last thing I have came to know by personal experience is just by the way you argue a topic. If you’re trying to prove you’re right, don’t be negative and bull-headed because chances are they won’t even listen to you.

In my essay of “This I Believe,” I realize after peer editing, that some of the topics I talk about really just skim the surface of the point I’m trying to get across. To furthermore edit my essay, I am going to go into more detail of how I actually felt and the things I gained that developed my belief. I think that some topics in my story may seem not as important as others, so I’m going to cut out the unnecessary sentences.
As to specific things I’m going to change in my essay, I am going to try and use as many transitional expressions as possible. After looking over my paper, I noticed that I tend to start of my sentences with the words “I,” “My,” and “It.” In addition I am going to take a closer look at my paragraph unity so I know that my story is in sequence and coherent to what I am writing about. The last thing I will keep a close eye on is my punctuation and grammar. I am not the best with punctuation, as you may know, so I am going to do my best to correct them all. Nevertheless, when I use all of these skills to finalize my essay, I believe my essay will be as real, yet professional, as I can make it.

Things I learned include:
*A lot of them ended with stating what they believed in rather than starting of with coming right out and saying it.
* I noticed they all had stories that led usually led them to why they believed in those things.
* I saw that each sentence had its own important significance.
* In the essays, they used a ton of sensory description.
If I were to talk to someone about what I think the goals of the “This I Believe” essays, I would tell them that they are short essays that literally explain what they believe in. Its not just what they believe in though because It’s also their way of life, their morals, and just what they have come to understand and know. The “This I believe” essays are powerful in their individual ways because they explain 80 different people’s view of their lifestyle. The essays range from connecting with others, to god, to sports, to faith, and having fun with life. I believe this book is a great document to read and understand because it makes you think well-roundly, which in turn you can then to really think and decide in what the heart of what you believe in.

I learned from the SMG (ebook) that you can do a lot more with writing than just jotting down facts. Writing really helps you to remember why things are important because when your doing a research paper or anything, you have to be able to justify yourself to sound convincing. When writing a paper, you use more of your personal values as to how you think things should be and even listing your ideas.
I believe writing is important because It helps me to be able to understand things in a different way. I now realize that it also help you to be more aware of your personal values in life.
Writing is important because It gives you another way to express yourself rather than just verbally. Its important because you are able to use writing in many ways to communicate different ways whether its for a job, school, to a friend etc.
