Screenr is a web based screen recorder that is able to create and share screencast movies. You can use the embed code to place your screenr movie into your Blackboard course using some basic HTML editing. Remember, use the OLD EMBED CODE.

Checking Course Statistics

Course Statistic Reports are a great way to monitor student activity. You can generate reports to see which Content Areas get the most traffic, and how often students are participating in their Group space and Discussion Forums. Your search can include the whole class for general usage, or a selection (1 or more) to monitor a smaller batch of students. Check in periodically to see which students might need a little more motivation.

TIP: Make sure to scroll all the way to the bottom of your Overall Summary to see which days and times have the most activity! This could help you plan collaborative activities and live presentations.

Adjusting Test Feedback Settings

Students can review their test from the Gradebook, but the amount of feedback depends on your test settings. Here’s a quick explanation of the settings and a short video.

Feedback settings can be changed at anytime – before, during, and after a test is administered. Click “Modify Test Options” and look for the “Feedback” section for these options. You can choose to display as little or as many as you’d like:

Score
Submitted Answers
Correct Answers (enables the student to learn from his/her mistake)
Feedback (display this if you’ve added feedback to any individual questions, like “Sorry, this is incorrect because… .”)

Adding media to a test question

Many don’t know that one CAN add media to test questions! This option is hidden under “Creation Settings” accesible from a test’s canvas.

Add links to Audio files, PDFs, Word docs
Display images within the question text (jpg, gif, png)
Provide external links (use the text editor or the new options that appear)

One of our biggest pet peeves about Blackboard is that students cannot interact with class Announcements. We are used to being able to do this all across the web, since most websites have a social component built in (mainly commenting). We thought we’d try something new and post our announcements on our blog and set the blog to be our course entry point. Here’s how we did it:

Moving and copying content items

Use the COPY button to create multiple instances of the same item, like a folder you plan on using as a template for future modules.Content items and folders can also be MOVED from one place to another very easily. Just COPY the item to the new destination (folder or content area) and REMOVE the original after you’re sure the item copied successfully. This is helpful during re-development stages, so you don’t have to re-type any content. Content can also be moved from one course to another; just have to change your destination course.

Extra Credit

Add an extra credit column to your Grade Center without effecting the point total. The trick is to only assign a fraction of a point (.00001) to the column.
