Norwalk resident receives scholarship to attend BGSU Firelands

Huron, Ohio – Katia Marie Castile of Norwalk has received the Mruk Family Scholarship to attend Bowling Green State University Firelands College. Castile will receive $771 towards tuition for the 2013 spring semester.

This award is available to part-time students who experience a sudden need that may jeopardize their ability to continue their education for the spring semester.

Castile is a 1987 graduate of Norwalk High School.

She is a senior majoring in social work and liberal studies at BGSU Firelands where she has received the Building Blocks to the Future Award, the Windows to the Future Award, and the Feminist Falcon Award. She is serving her second term as the president of Student Government and vice president of Women’s Resource Group. She has served as the student representative for the College Council, the Advisory Board, the Distinguished Falculty Award, and the All Campus Book Committee.

She is the daughter of Hans Thumm and Patricia Weber.

Sandusky resident receives scholarship to attend BGSU Firelands

Huron, Ohio – Samantha Marie Clonch of Sandusky has received the William J. Parker Memorial Scholarship to attend Bowling Green State University Firelands College. Clonch will receive $3,573 towards tuition for the 2012-2013 academic year.

This endowed award is available to students who are enrolled on a full- or part-time basis.

Clonch is a 2012 graduate of Perkins High School where she earned an academic varsity letter and two academic varsity pins, a band varsity letter and three band varsity pins, she was inducted into the National Honor Society, and she was active in band, theatre, and Solo and Ensemble competitions. While in high school she received the President’s Award for Academic Excellence and was the Perkins Honor Scholar.

She is an entering freshman majoring in history at BGSU Firelands.

Sandusky resident receives scholarship to attend BGSU Firelands

Huron, Ohio – Jennifer L. Comparette of Sandusky has received the DeBard Family Scholarship to attend Bowling Green State University Firelands College. Comparette will receive $2,625 towards tuition for the 2012-2013 academic year.

This scholarship was established by the Robert DeBard family. DeBard is the former dean of BGSU Firelands and a retired professor of Bowling Green State University. This scholarship is awarded to a full-time student pursuing a degree in business or education, who is from Erie County. Financial need and a 3.0 GPA or better are preferred.

Comparette is a 2010 graduate of Perkins High School where she was inducted into the National Honors Society, was on the honor roll, earned two academic letters,  was in the top 10 percent of her graduating class, and was involved in Aim for Excellence and Student Council. Her community service includes work with Big Brothers Big Sisters, Clothe a Child, elementary school tutor, special needs tutor, and vacation bible school.

She is a junior majoring in early childhood education at BGSU Firelands.

She is the daughter of William and Cindy Comparette of Sandusky.

Huron, Ohio – Jessica L. Cowie of Sandusky has received the George L. Mylander Scholarship at Bowling Green State University Firelands College. Cowie will receive $2,089 towards tuition for the 2012-2013 academic year.

This scholarship is offered to a student who is a resident of Sandusky or other Erie County communities.

Cowie is a 2012 graduate of Perkins High School where she was inducted into the National Honors Society and she was on the honor roll. While in high school she was named Elks Lodge Student of the Month and she was involved in Aim for Excellence, Aquatones, Pirates for Peers, and activites at The Chapel.

She is an entering freshman at BGSU Firelands.

She is the daughter of Brian and Kim Cowie of Sandusky.

Vermilion resident receives scholarship to attend BGSU Firelands

Huron, Ohio – Lisa Ann Horvath of Vermilion has received the NBC Universal-Buckeye Cable System Scholarship to attend Bowling Green State University Firelands College. Horvath will receive $815 towards tuition for the 2012-2013 academic year.

This variable scholarship is available to full- and part-time students who reside in Erie County and are graduates or candidates for graduation from any high school in Erie County. Need is a consideration for this award.

Horvath is a 1978 graduate of Vermilion High School where she was inducted into the National Honor Society. She has been involved in community service including Kohl’s Cares for Kids charity events and has worked with the Lorain County Board of Elections as a classroom aide for the pollworker training classes.

She is a continuing freshman at BGSU Firelands.

Huron, Ohio – Heather Marie Robles of Sandusky has received the George L. Mylander Scholarship at Bowling Green State University Firelands College. Robles will receive $2,089 towards tuition for the 2012-2013 academic year.

This scholarship is offered to a student who is a resident of Sandusky or other Erie County communities.

Robles is a 1998 graduate of Clyde High School. She has been involved with organizing and coaching the AMVETS Benny B’s Barbershop little league baseball team in Sandusky.

She is a junior majoring in early childhood education at BGSU Firelands.
