The University community has been enjoying the delicate blossoms’ annual display thanks to the generosity of alumni and friends in Japan, and the long-ago friendship between then-President William Howard Taft of Ohio and the government of Japan.</p>

<p>A Hampton-Tuskegee School on Japan&#8217;s Northern Frontier</p>

<p>His talk explores the development of segregated schools for Indigenous people in early 20th Century Hokkaido, Japan, with particular attention to the Abuta Industrial School (1902-1938) as an  example of the global export of the Hampton-Tuskegee model of African- American schooling.</p>
